OVERVIEW:
Jane's World stars the loveable misfit, Jane Wyatt. It's a
comic full of "girl-on-girl action, chicks with guns, a
vegan menace, vintage Winnebagos, drag queens and downward
career spirals. You know, the usual-for stability-challenged
Jane.
Whether it's friends who see her as one of the guys (her
roommate Ethan), women who see her as a fixer-upper (vegan
surfer Skye), or figures of mystery who find themselves
attracted to her in spite of themselves (badass ex-cop
Chelle), or just nice, normal women (Jane's on-again,
off-again girlfriend Dorothy), everyone around her finds
themselves being sucked into the maelstrom of drama,
coincidences, and serious enmeshment issues that surround
Jane. The results are funny, sexy, silly, and sometimes
dramatic-the last thanks mostly to the flashbacks of Chelle
and her current (romantic and otherwise) ex-partner Jill's
days as cops and the resultant side plots that continue to
unfold in the storyline's present day.
In short, Jane is a magnet for the kind of drama that makes
for good comedy.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
 |
Jane:
Jane Wyatt is one of those people to whom things just
happen. She combines mild-mannered amiability and indecision
with a severe lack of style and nutrition-savvy, not to
mention she is just plain wishy-washy. She also seems to be
(slightly) irresistible to women, much to her own
bewilderment, since she doesn't seem to have the vaguest of
clues how to deal with them (she happens to be a lesbian).
She also works at a newspaper… when she actually has a job. |
|
Chelle:
Chelle Archer (pronounced shell) is a bit of a dark
character with a background in Special Ops. She and Jane
dated briefly, but broke it off when they reached the
conclusion that the other was more and more the kind of
person who annoyed them. In 2003, while working at the local
newspaper, Chelle blew her secret cover and was revealed to
be an undercover operative for an intelligence agency. After
her grandfather died she inherited a large sum of money, she
open up her own private detective agency and is now able to
operate as a free agent on projects of her own choosing. |
 |
 |
Ethan:
Unlike many of the characters in the strip, Ethan Klein
isn't gay. He is straight, and he is Jane's roommate. He
likes to point out from time-to -time that he does, however,
have strong lesbian tendencies. Ethan is likeable, laid back
and generally unmotivated. He left a tech support job to
work in Dorothy's coffee shop because the hours were more
flexible. Ethan and Jane have one big thing in common…
neither of them understand women. |
|
Jill:
Jill James, ex-Navy, ex-cop, came late into Jane's World.
She showed up one day looking for Chelle. It seems Chelle's
estranged, lesbian mother hired her to find Chelle. Jill and
Chelle were partners on the police force after they
graduated from the academy, and then were both recruited to
work for the same intelligence agency. Of course romance
followed and they became romantically involved while working
together. Theirs is a volatile off and on romance. |
 |
 |
Dorothy:
Dorothy is Jane's best friend from college, and occasional
crush. Dorothy is bisexual, but doesn't usually admit it.
Although she has a graduate degree in English, Dorothy now
works at and co-owns a coffee shop with her mother. Dorothy
seems to be ever critical of Jane's life choices and once
even went so far as to hire her a life coach. Sometimes
friendship gets confused with attraction and Jane and
Dorothy end up having these romantic encounters that they
both later regret. |
|
Skye:
Skye is a local vegan surfer who also happens to be an
ex-missionary and Jane's current love interest. She works at
The Garden of Vegan, the one and only vegan restaurant in
Spud Point. Skye and Jane's biggest issue is their food
incompatibility, which will probably not be easily overcome,
unless someone invents an organic, sprouted wheat donut that
doesn't taste like glazed sawdust. |
